Doing things a little differently!!
Rather then title this another "Counting It Down" post, I decided to make this one a little more special.
I've made no secret over the years my love for music, and trust me when I say it was difficult picking just 10 albums to represent this list.
Following the list, I'll be listing some honorable mentions that never made the cut.
Ready?
10. Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt
Perfect start to my list.
Gwen Stefani and the boys have put out amazing albums over the years, but nothing touches the perfection that was their 3rd studio album, "Tragic Kingdom", released in 1995.
The stellar piece of work gave the world incredible singles "Don't Speak", "Sunday Morning", "Just a Girl" and "Spiderwebs". The band was nominated for 2 Grammy's that year, for Best New Artist and Best Rock Album.
Favorite track - "Sunday Morning"
9. Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
Caught ya off guard with this one didn't I?
Well, back in the day, more specifically 1992, Barenaked Ladies were on top of the world with their STELLAR album "Gordon". The album produced many chart topping singles including "Brian Wilson", "If I Had $1,000,000 Dollars", and "Enid.
Judge me all you want, but this album STILL remains in constant rotation!!
Favorite track - Brian Wilson
8. Madonna - Ray of Light
All hail the Queen!!
When Madonna released her 7th studio album "Ray of Light", I don't believe ANYONE really anticipated what we were in for.
Working with William Orbit and Babyface, the Queen of Pop delivered one of the strongest albums of her illustrious career. Singles "Ray of Light", ""Frozen" and "Nothing Really Matters".
My favorite Madge album TO DATE!!
Favorite track - Frozen
7. Blackout - Britney Spears
Madonna's "Ray of Light" somewhat leads into the following because while I believe it was Madge's best work to date, "Blackout" was Britney's.
Yes, it was a SHIT time in the life of my beloved pop star, the album would go on to be her BEST to date.
With an urban, club sound, and countless producers, "Blackout" delivered strong songs such as "Gimme More", "Toy Soldier", and "Radar".
The fact that Britney is working with William Orbit on her upcoming 8th studio album....
My excitement?
All time HIGH.
Favorite track - Toy Soldier
6. Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill
Released in 1998, the Fugees lead singer delivered one of the best albums EVER in my opinion, and it definitely ranks in my list. The album went on to huge success, nabbing her 5 Grammy's including Album of the Year. Stellar piece of work.
Favorite track - Ex-Factor
5. Thriller - Michael Jackson
What is there to really say about the album that gave us "Billie Jean"......and "Thriller".....and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"??
How about PERFECTION?
CLASSIC?
Yup.
Favorite track - Billie Jean
4. Butterfly - Mariah Carey
While many may consider some of Mariah's best work to be included on "Daydream" or "Music Box", Miss Carey delivered MY favorite tracks off of her 1997 album "Butterfly".
With standout tracks "My All", "Honey" and "Whenever You Call", the album was a huge success for the singer as it earned rave reviews and garnered her 2 Grammy nominations.
Favorite track - Honey
3. 19 - Adele
Okay, so most of you will wonder why I included this album and not the STELLAR work of "21". Simply put, in my fabulous opinion?
"19" was FAR superior!!
With amazing tracks "Chasing Pavements", and the KILLER "Hometown Glory", this album is still everything to me.
Can't wait for album #3!!
Favorite track - Hometown Glory
2. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette
The ORIGINAL angst!!
While everyone today can credit Adele for making a breakup sound good, it was Canada's own Alaniss Morissette who did it first!
"Jagged Little Pill" would earn Alanis a Grammy for Album of the Year.
Favorite track - Mary Jane & You Oughta Know
Are you all ready for this?
It's time.
My FAVORITE album of all time.....
1. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
Some may agree.....
Some may not. Okay, a lot of you probably won't, but the late Amy Winehouse is the one who delivered my favorite album of ALL TIME.
Amy's second album, which followed the incredible "Frank", shot the singer to superstardom. As of last year, the album had sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
Amy went on to win Record of the Year and Single of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
My absolute FAVORITE album.
EVER.
